Wilde Memorial Park Basketball Court Updates

With the help of the Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Glen Rock Police Department (GRPD), the Department of Parks & Recreation has been making progress towards reopening the basketball courts at Wilde Memorial Park by implementing the following recommendations of the Bergen County Prosecutor's office.

 

To date the following has been accomplished:  Installation of (numerous) Cameras and live feed to the GRPD; upgraded lighting to the PSEG poles, trimming of foliage, additional gates on both the basketball and tennis courts for proper egress; signage with regard to 24 hour security; and fencing between the Courts and the new Hockey Rink.

 

The last phase of the improvements, based upon recommendations from the BCPO Safety Assessment, have begun.  The last phase is the automatic locking mechanism on the courts themselves and then the signage stating the court hours (6am - 6pm) and park hours (6am to 9pm).

 

Keeping in mind that the Little League begins on April 5th, we will hold off on reopening the Courts until after opening weekend out of courtesy and respect for those families who were affected last March. 

 

A tentative court reopening date originally planned for the week of April 7th has been postponed. When a new date is available it will be announced with notice. The courts will not reopen until all these improvements are made, and we ensure proper operation of the locking mechanism.

 

Additionally, to date, we have received no progress update on the investigation into the events that occurred.
