Arts Council Of Glen Rock Announces Plein Air Sunday Mornings For Summer 2025

 Participants bring their materials to a planned location, select a view, and start painting/drawing

The Arts Council of Glen Rock’s monthly Plein Air Sunday Mornings is returning this summer for monthly outdoor painting and drawing. Painting in the open air (en plein air) will be held in June, July, August, September, and October. Members are invited to bring their art materials (easel, chair, oils, watercolors, pastels, pencils, drawing board), and create with other Glen Rock artists from preset vantage points/locations in or near Glen Rock.

This is a time when individuals can gather with other Glen Rock artists of all abilities to draw or paint in nature, at their own pace and style. The Arts Council also invites budding artists of all ages to join in the experience. Children are welcome, accompanied by an adult. Watercolors and color pencils and paper will be available for people to experiment with at each gathering.

Impressionists embraced painting en plein air as a way to capture light and its changing, ephemeral qualities. The advent of paints in tubes and transportable easels made painting outside of a studio convenient and added to the popularity of painting and drawing while in a natural outdoor setting.

Artists are invited to gather at the following locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and are welcome to stay as long as they wish.

• July 13 – J.A. McFaul Conservation and Nature Sanctuary, 150 Crescent Avenue, Wyckoff
• August 10 – Glen Rock Historical Society, Main Street Train Station, 176 Rock Road, Glen Rock
• September 14 – To be determined
• October 19 – To be determined
