Important Information Regarding Filling Mayor Morieko's Unexpired Term

Information regarding the process for filling Mayor Morieko's unexpired term is as follows:

Mayor Morieko's resignation goes into effect October 1, 2026.  The process for filling the vacancy is set by state statute N.J.S.A. 40A:16-11 and will be followed by the governing body.  Because Mayor Morieko was elected as the Democratic nominee, the Glen Rock Democratic Municipal Committee will submit three names to the Borough Council within 15 days (by October 15, 2026). The Council then has 30 days from the vacancy to select one of those three individuals to serve as mayor.

This appointment will serve the remainder of the Mayor Morieko's unexpired term, through December 31, 2027.  In 2027, there will be an election for the office of Mayor for the 2028-2031 term.
