Under the baton of Music Director LaGruth, the Pops begins rehearsals for the Spring season on Thursday, January 18 in the Band Room of the of the Glen Rock High School. Rehearsals are held from 7:30pm to 9:45pm. Parking is next to the building. Three free concerts are held in Glen Rock annually – Holiday, Spring, and July Fourth Celebration (held on July 3rd). The Spring and Holiday concerts are broadcast on Glen Rock TV.
Music Director Anthony LaGruth is currently looking for instrumentalists in the following categories: String Players (especially Violins), Percussionists, French Horn, Oboe, Bassoon, and other instruments. He has said that “This is a great way to play music and meet fellow musicians. The multigenerational orchestra offers a welcoming collaborative environment. The musicians currently comprise a fifty-member group and come from diverse backgrounds throughout the area. They combine their talents to entertain audiences in schools, churches, community events and assisted-living facilities in northern New Jersey.
Music Director Anthony LaGruth has been a significant influence on the orchestra’s success. He is currently the Music Director and Conductor of the Livingston Symphony Orchestra (NJ), and the North Shore Music Festival (NY). He also serves as the Associate Conductor of the North Shore Symphony (NY). For 17 seasons, Maestro LaGruth served as Artistic Director and Conductor of the Garden State Philharmonic as well as six seasons as the Music Director of the Lyric Opera of San Antonio (TX). He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Conductors Guild, a national service organization for conductors.
