There are many federal, state and county programs in place for seniors. The local services offered in the Borough complement those programs. By offering some of these local programs and services, many senior residents are able to remain in the community, living with as much independence and dignity as possible. Below is a list of those programs and services available to seniors living in the Borough of Glen Rock.
Glen Courts Mgt Office

While this is a Borough asset for our senior residents, the complex is run by an independent group. Applications for Glen Courts can be obtained directly from the management by visiting the management office or calling. There are 80 units available for seniors. Most are one-bedroom apartments, though there are several two-bedroom apartments available.
Senior Community Bus
The Senior Shuttle is a free service that provides transportation for Glen Rock seniors. The shuttle has a set weekly schedule that includes local grocery stores and shopping centers. It is also available to help residents get to doctors’ appointments.
The shuttle picks up residents at Glen Courts on scheduled shopping days. Residents who do not live at Glen Courts can call (201) 670-3956 to arrange pick up at their residence.
Monday through Friday: 8:30am to 2pm
Tuesdays: Grocery Store Trip (Shoprite & Stop & Shop)
Thursdays: The Mall @ 11am
Fridays: Kilroy’s @ 9am
The Thursday trips to local shopping malls include Garden State Plaza, Bergen Town Center and Paramus Park. The schedule rotates weekly; to learn more call (201) 670–3956.
Arrange A Ride:
The shuttle is available Monday – Friday between 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM to bring resident seniors to local doctor appointments. The shuttle will pick you up at home and bring you to the appointment, and then after the appointment it will bring you back home. To schedule a pickup, call (201) 670–3956.
Discounted Taxi Coupons
Discounted taxi coupons are available for purchase at a heavily reduced rate ($25 worth of coupons for $11) for Ridgewood Taxi by calling 201-444-1800. Coupons can be purchased at Borough Hall during regular business hours. Cash or checks are accepted. Using a taxi service provides a rider greater flexibility in scheduling appointments and for those times a ride is needed when the community bus service is not available.
Do you need to travel into NYC on an occasional basis? Free parking at the Glen Rock train stations is being offered by the Borough.

There are a few Borough services available to seniors to assist them with activities which may be difficult to do particularly if they live alone, or are unable to perform on their own. Some services are provided by volunteers and are available as volunteers step forward to assist.
Big Sweep
The Big Sweep is a community program where volunteers sign up to assist seniors by raking leaves in the fall. Seniors can request assistance by calling the Borough Administrative Office at 201-670-3956. This program is dependent on volunteers signing up. Volunteers are matched with requests from seniors. Every attempt will be made to respond to a request for help, but there is no guarantee. For additional information contact the Deputy Clerk at 201-670-3956
Shovel 4 Seniors
Snow Removal is a similar program to The Big Sweep. Volunteers signup to assist seniors when it snows by shoveling their walkways and sidewalks. Seniors can request this assistance by calling the Director of Parks and Recreation Office. Volunteers are then matched with seniors who have requested help. There is no specified time frame as to when the volunteer may be able to shovel. For additional information contact the Director Parks and Recreation 201-670-3951 x1.
DPW Recycling Pickup
for those senior residents who live alone and are unable to place recycling to the curb for normal pickup, DPW can arrange to pick up recycling from the back of the house. This service is intended for those senior residents who are physically unable to put their recycling to the curb and must be re-applied for at Borough Hall prior to the start of each year. Most seniors today are active and have the time to enjoy a variety of activities that include fitness, relaxation and learning. Glen Rock has a number of services in place with activities and programs geared towards seniors and/or at a discount to ease the financial burden to seniors.

* “Nearing Retirement” classes are not part of the senior classes. A discount is offered to senior citizens on those classes.
Activities Club

The Activities Club is for retired and semi-retired men of Glen Rock, New Jersey and nearby communities. The Club is a not-for-profit, non-political, non-sectarian organization. Its main goal is to provide a lively focus for the socialization needs of senior men through participation in group activities of their own choice and design. The Activities Club holds monthly general meetings and offers a variety of activities and learning opportunities, and, if willing, participate as volunteers in individual and community services.
Glen Rock Senior Citizens Club

The Glen Rock Senior Citizens Club meets every Wednesday at the Municipal Annex. The club organizes 9 day trips a year, has in-house events such as special lunches on St. Patrick's and Valentine's Day, plus speakers and entertainers. All seniors are welcome to hang out, play cards or any other game they like, enjoy the scheduled events and day trips or socialize with other seniors. Membership is $5 a year.
Middle & High School Plays

Senior residents are invited each year to attend an afternoon dress rehearsal of the High School and Middle School musical plays at no charge.The Community Bus is available to provide transportation to and from Borough Hall.
Discounted Swim Badges

Swim badges to the Glen Rock Pool are available to senior residents at the heavily discounted rate of $20 per person for the season.

The state of New Jersey offers a program to reimburse eligible senior citizens and persons with disabilities for property tax or mobile home park site fee increases on their principal residence. To qualify, you must meet all the eligibility requirements for each year from the base year through the application year. (The current year is 2022.) To learn more, click here.
Community Meals

Community Meals is a member of Meals on Wheels America Association, and is a private non-profit service organization that delivers meals to the homebound Monday through Friday, excluding six holidays. Volunteers deliver meals between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm to clients in Allendale, Glen Rock, Ho-Ho-Kus, Midland Park, Ridgewood, Waldwick and part of Saddle River. Office hours are 10:00 am - 2:00 pm Monday through Friday. For more information about this service or to learn how you may help, contact them.
Volunteer Center of Bergen County, Chore Service

The Chore Service helps senior homeowners age 60 and over, as well as homeowners with disabilities of all ages to remain safe and secure in their homes by performing minor household repairs that they can neither do themselves nor get anyone else to do. Services are provided by Chore crews of volunteer handypersons, many of whom are seniors themselves. There is no charge for Chore’s services, but clients are expected to pay for the parts necessary to complete the repair.
